Mathew A. Huffman is the principal in charge of the studio’s commercial, religious, mixed-use and residential projects. He manages and leads the design efforts with a talented team on an array of different scales, in all phases of projects.  Growing up, he designed and built furniture in his father’s workshop, which has led to a lifelong interest in technical skills and problem-solving. Today he brings those skills - along with a methodical knowledge of the construction process - to his pragmatic approach in resolving complex design problems. Some of his current projects at ALMA include C.B. Moore [Micro] [Mod], Auction House, Span, Stacked, and X-Chair.

 

Mathew has over 20 years of experience practicing architecture with a focus on urban projects.  He joined ALMA in 2015 after leaving Interface Studio Architects where he was a senior studio director for large-scale, urban, mixed-use projects.  Some of the recent projects he led at ISA include Twelve40, MicroPhila, Transatlantic, and Broad Street Hotel (aka Blue Horizon).  Mathew is a licensed architect in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a member of the American Institute of Architects and a LEED Accredited Professional.

 

Mathew served on the Children’s Village Board of Directors, a nationally recognized model for high-quality early childhood education based in Philadelphia.  While on the board he assisted on the development and recruiting committees.  He has also volunteered for the Community Design Collaborative, AIA Architecture Group Mentoring Program in Philadelphia, and the Ace Mentoring Program of Eastern Pennsylvania.  Mathew has been a guest juror for student design reviews at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, Drexel University, Philadelphia University, Temple University Tyler School of Art and Moore College of Art & Design.
