Site

The landscape presented a challenging set of natural and legal constraints. The resulting boundaries, particular to each site, suggested differing approaches to intervention.

Massing Studies

A series of massings and orientations were explored to find the optimal site relationships. Each house took a unique form to relate to its particular site conditions.

Site Strategies

Meadow/Brook incorporates water management strategies such as bioswales, rain barrels, green roofs, and porous paving.

Brook House

The building's mass is curled around a court and its interrupted to allow the crisscrossing of light, air, and views - to brook, and to forest. The building is lifted up on piers, allowing water and vegetation to continue below.

Meadow House

On the more constrained northern site the mass follows the contour of the brook. The building nestles into the ground, allowing the interior an intimate relationship with the landscape.

Meadow Relate

Meadow House affords a place from which to connect with the landscape. Large spans of retractable glass panels make for a seamless transition between interior and exterior.

Meadow Cove

Meadow House is bent and nestled into a hillock, creating a protected cove. Each house creates a unique space from which to view and respect the features of the landscape.
